YACHATS — The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble will offer its annual holiday band concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Yachats Commons.
The program will include both religious and secular seasonal pieces traditionally celebrated by Christian, Jewish, Solstice and Kwanzaa traditions. There will also be a carol sing-along.
While the concert is free, donations are welcomed. Proceeds will benefit both the Yachats Food Pantry and South Lincoln Resources. Homemade baked goods and hot beverages will be available during intermission.
Oregon Pacific Bank president Ron Green will narrate a musical version of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Prior to his banking career, Green was a professional trumpet player and currently plays regularly with the Yachats Big Band.
The ensemble is comprised of about 35 professional and amateur musicians from the central Oregon coast and Willamette valley and provides scholarships to local music students, mainly from Newport, Waldport and Siuslaw high schools. The group has been offering entertainment for more than two decades, and plays several concerts each year throughout the region.
