Lincoln County added 540 jobs in June, resulting in a slight decrease to 4.6 percent in the county’s overall unemployment rate, the Oregon Employment Department announced Tuesday.
There was an increase of 560 private-sector jobs in June, led by an addition of 340 jobs in leisure and hospitality businesses. Jobs in government dropped by 20.
There were a total of 18,690 non-farm jobs in the county in June, according to Erik Knoder, the agency’s Newport-based regional economist.
Overall, there were 120 more non-farm jobs in Lincoln County this June compared with a year ago. Private-sector employment was up 120 jobs year-over-year and government had 100 more jobs.
Knoder reported that industries adding the most workers over the year were leisure and hospitality with 150 jobs, local government education with 80, and construction with 50.
Lincoln County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in June, down 0.1 percent from May and 0.2 percent from June 2018. Oregon’s unemployment rate is 4.1 percent; the national rate is 3.7 percent.
