Lincoln County’s annual event where residents can dispose of household hazardous waste at no cost will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at Dahl Disposal in Waldport.
The event, which rotates between Lincoln City, Newport, Toledo and Waldport, is sponsored by Lincoln County garbage companies and the county’s Solid Waste District.
Household hazardous materials that will be accepted include pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other poisons, heavy metals such as mercury and products containing mercury, and acids.
Not accepted are household batteries, car batteries and fluorescent bulbs because these can be dropped off at recycling/transfer stations throughout the year.
Also not being accepted are oil-based, latex and other paints (some of which are considered hazardous household waste) unless the paint cans have lost their label. Most latex and oil based paint can also be dropped off throughout the year.
A few spray paint can that are at least a quarter full will be accepted.
Products should not be mixed together. Keeping products in their original containers when possible will help staff dispose of materials safely. Products should also be properly sealed to prevent leaks and spills. Containers and boxes, including gasoline cans, cannot be returned. Do not put items in plastic bags.
Contractors, businesses and governments that have hazardous waste are asked to schedule an appointment to drop off their waste for a fee.
