WALDPORT – Kevin Greenwood of Waldport has been named executive director of the Port of Hood River, the port’s board announced last week.
Greenwood has been serving as director of the port’s effort to replace its toll bridge across the Columbia River for the past five years, a project estimated to cost $400 million to $500 million.
Greenwood was the Garbaldi city manager from 2004-2009, manager of the Port of Garibaldi from 2009-2014, and manager of the Port of Newport from 2014-2017, before signing on to lead the bridge replacement effort in Hood River. He has been commuting to Hood River for that work.
“His strong port management background, coupled with his depth of understanding of our efforts to replace the bridge and his diligent leadership of that effort over the past five years were all highly valued in this process,” port president Ben Sheppard said in a news release announcing the hire. “As the port evolves over the next decade, we feel Kevin is the right person to lead that effort.”
Greenwood replaces Michael McElwee who retired in July.
“I’m honored and especially gratified to be able to ensure that the Port’s day-to-day business and its most important project, bridge replacement, will not lose any of the momentum that has been built over the past few years,” Greenwood said in the news release.
