To the editor:
A few days ago, I received an unsolicited single page request for money from Celeste McEntee of Newport, the Republican nominee for Oregon House District 10, with the misleading title “State Representative” under the name.
The return address – and the place to which I was to send funds – is a post office box in Bend, not even in our legislative district. The envelope was mailed from Portland.
This mail request told me nothing about why she is running for office, what qualifications she might have or what issues she champions. She didn’t even ask for my vote – only my money.
She wants to replace David Gomberg, who has been our very successful representative for House District 10 over the last decade. He has served us passionately, respectfully and effectively. He has brought millions of state and federal dollars into our community for critical local projects.
He and his wife, Susie, were forced from their home during the devastating Echo Mountain Complex fire in September 2020. Just as soon as they could safely return, they did – helping their neighbors dig out and rebuild. David Gomberg secured not only funding packages but also tax relief in legislative measures to benefit people displaced by the fires.
David Gomberg travels the district constantly – from barbecues to bay fronts, from the backwoods to the city halls – always listening and working for citizens of House District 10. He has sponsored investments to strengthen our schools and offer housing and critical services for the less fortunate.
His weekly newsletter to constituents reflects transparency about his work in Salem and also interesting tidbits of information about our coastal life such as why the sand changes color and the names of our local gray whales.
David Gomberg has credibility on both sides of the aisle in Salem. He is a seasoned leader who knows how to forge alliances and will keep our district his priority as we navigate these unique and uncertain times.
Please join me in contributing to his campaign and, most importantly, vote to retain David Gomberg as our representative in the Oregon House.
