YACHATS – The Overleaf Lodge and Fireside Motel have extended their annual food drive through May 5.
The two motels usually collect 11,000 pounds of food per year from November through March, but decide to extend the effort an additional two months to try to make a bigger impact, said motel operating partner Kristin Roslund.
The food is distributed to residents of south Lincoln County through Waldport Food Share and the lodge’s own food pantry for employees who may be food insecure.
Overleaf Lodge or Fireside Motel guests who bring six cans of food per night of their stay receive a 20 percent discount on their stay Sunday through Thursday, with some restrictions.
“We are really motivated to make a bigger impact on hunger in our coastal communities,” Roslund said. “We see the need and the importance of stepping up and taking action. In doing so, we can really make a difference for our hungry neighbors.”
