YACHATS — Oregon State Police cited a Nevada man for failure to yield right of way after he pulled out of a street onto U.S. Highway 101 just north of Yachats Tuesday and hit a 36-foot-long travel trailer.
No one was hurt in the collision, but heavy summer traffic was stopped or snarled for hours.
Lt. Brian Rucker said Joshua Holtom, 31, of Reno, was leaving Kansas Street just north of Deane’s Oceanside Lodge and pulling onto the highway when he did not see a southbound truck and travel trailer driven by Andrew Kahler, 53, of Yamhill.
Holtom’s truck missed Kahler’s truck but hit the front of his trailer “t-bone fashion,” according to Tucker’s report. Kahler was able to keep his truck and trailer from overturning, but ended up in the ditch alongside the highway.
Holtom’s truck and Kahler’s trailer were damaged enough that they had to be towed from the scene.
