Narrative Summary
On 7/28/20 at approximately 4:04 AM, OSP received a report of a single vehicle crash that occurred on SR-18 MP 7. The vehicle had collided with a Pacific Power Utility Pole, which was connected to another utility pole across the roadway. Both utility poles were damaged. Unit #1 (1999 silver Honda CRV bearing a WA plate: BQR3535) was traveling west on SR-18, when it drove into the oncoming lane of travel and into the utility pole on the eastbound shoulder. Unit #1 then rolled down a 30ft embankment and came to an uncontrolled rest upside down in a creek. Pacific Power and North Lincoln Fire Dept. were on scene prior to my arrival. The driver told a Pacific Power worker, that she was coming from the Casino in Grand Ronde going to her house in Depoe Bay, and she had alcoholic beverages. The worker also mentioned a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person. The driver was transported to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital due to her injuries. I followed up with the driver at the hospital, and I view a toxicology report provided by the hospital staff. The driver had a BAC of 0.184%. The driver admitted to me, that she was drinking alcohol prior to the crash. Signs of impairment were observed, but due to her injuries SFTS were not conducted. A Blood sample is being preserved at the hospital for a search warrant, and a secondary blood sample was obtained via consent from the driver. The investigation is currently on-going.
