Lincoln County is trying to find a contractor good at demolishing buildings. Lots of them. Six, in fact.
The county is preparing for the redevelopment of its fairgrounds in the center of Newport by seeking a contractor to demolish six buildings or areas of the Lincoln County Commons, home of the Lincoln County Fair.
Begun last year with the Business Oregon-funded renovation of the 4-H barn, the redevelopment project will follow a 2019 master plan for the property. The plan includes a new, 15,000-square-foot multi-purpose building to replace the existing Exhibit Hall; a new, partially covered pavilion to replace the indoor and outdoor arena facilities; a new gateway feature at the corner of Northeast Third and Harney streets; a new stage, outdoor plazas, green space and more.
The first step is demolition of six structures or areas of the commons.
According to the request for proposals for demolition services issued Monday, the initial round of demolition will not include the Exhibit Hall. That building will be taken apart later, allowing the county to salvage and repurpose large wooden beams and columns, making them part of the new facility.
The current request for proposals for demolition services includes the 1,000-square-foot stage, the 2,600-square-foot floral building, the 10,000-square-foot stable, the 1,600-square-foot tractor barn and a 2,000-square foot barn. Those are made of wood with wood siding or metal sheathing.
The contractor will also demolish the rodeo arena area and remove the wooden retaining wall, announcer tower and concrete foundations for the grandstands.
The county will have a site visit from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 19 and contractors interested in submitting a proposal have until 5 p.m. Sept. 27. Proposals should be submitted to county administrator Tim Johnson, 225 W. Olive Street, Rm. 100, Newport, Oregon 97365.
The full request for proposals and submission guidelines can be seen on the county’s website.
