NEWPORT – Tired of paying $4.50 for a gallon of gas? Fourteen different brands of electric vehicles – including a Rivian pickup truck – will be available to inspect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday during a showcase sponsored by the Central Lincoln Peoples Utility District, Atonement Lutheran Church and Plug in America.
The event is being held at the church, 2315 N. Coast Highway, with parking at the CLPUD lot, 2129 N. Coast Highway. The first 200 people who attend will receive the choice of a free hamburger, hot dog, bowl of chili, or vegan soup from the Rolling Robin’s Nest food truck.
Available to anyone is a copy of Electric Car Insider’s EV Buyers’ Guide, which offers comprehensive comparisons of nearly every electric vehicle available in the U.S. Additional information about driving electric and state and federal incentives will also be available, including individual savings calculations of driving with electricity vs. gasoline.
Plug-in electric vehicles from 13 manufacturers will be on display from Arcimoto, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Kia, Nissan, Polestar, Tesla, Toyota, VW, and a Rivian, the first electric pickup sold commercially in the United States. Test drives will be available in a Honda Clarity, a Tesla Model Y, and a Tesla Model 3. Plug-in gas-electric hybrids will be shown from Chrysler, Honda, and Toyota.
“There are hundreds of electric vehicles registered to Oregon Coast residents,” said the show’s volunteer co-chair Debbie Jimmerson of Lincoln Beach. “Many people don’t know that as a majority of electric cars look like gas-powered vehicles. But electric vehicles are quieter and are much cheaper to drive and maintain. With more torque, electric vehicles are quicker than gas-powered vehicles. Even more importantly, driving electric reduces air pollution.”
Nearly all of the vehicles at the electric showcase will be displayed by their owners, who will be available to answer questions. More than 26 electric vehicles have registered to participate in the event.

Do your research people. Electric cars are not the answer.
